The Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Two Hours...Then We Came Home With a Wii

WARNING: Please excuse the length of this blog. You will understand when you reach the bottom.

Brett came home from work before our trip to Texas and told me that he had won his choice of a Playstation 3, X-Box 360, or Wii in a raffle at work. I was so excited because I have been wanting a Wii, but I knew that we couldn't splurge on it. Plus they are so dang hard to find. So he came home with a Playstation yesterday and we decided that we would get a Wii instead.

Knowing that his boss had gotten it at Wal-Mart, and knowing that their return policy includes everything and their dog, we headed on down there to return it. I called Best Buy on the way on a whim, and they had 10 Wiis in stock! We hauled it to Wal-Mart and while Brett went to Customer Service, I headed to the back to see if they had any systems and how much the games were.
Almost immediately I was trapped by an employee. "Can I help you find anything?" I was in a hurry, and it was obvious that they didn't have any systems, so I said no thank you, just looking. "Are you looking for anything in particular?" No. Go away. I have to get to Best Buy before those Wiis are gone. "Just so you know, if you're looking for a Wii system, a Wii Fit, or MarioKart, we're sold out." I thought this was the end of the conversation and tried to walk away, but I could not have been more wrong. I made the mistake of telling him that I knew Best Buy had some and he told me that I should get there right now. After this warning he proceeds to give me a friendly "heads up". He walks me over to Rock Band and taps it and looks at me. Without saying anything. I'm looking at him and he finally says, "This is Rock Band." Yes, I see that. He then tells me that if I buy Rock Band that I have to go directly to the manufacturer if anything goes wrong. I don't understand why he decided that it was important to tell me that when I had no interest in that game. He then started telling me how bad Best Buy's return policy was. Finally, I just said thank you and walked away before he had a chance to snare me with any other friendly advice.

I got to customer service, and it turns out that they wouldn't take the Playstation back without a reciept. So we called Brett's boss and asked for a copy of it. All this while I am imagining Wiis flying off the shelf at an unimaginable rate. We drove all the way down to where he works to pick it up, and on the way we almost got plowed over by a huge black truck that had wheels so big they should be illegal. When we finally got back to Wal-Mart, Brett was told that they would not take copies of the reciept, only the real one. But he had already been told otherwise, so they went and got manager approval and sent him back to electronics.

Yes, you guessed it. The same friendly employee who helped me without being asked ended up helping Brett. He told him that they didn't take copies of reciepts. Brett argued. 15 minutes later he comes back with manager approval and sends him back, yet again, to customer service. They tell him they can't take a copy of a reciept. Seriously. He argues again and is then told that we can't get cash, only store credit or refund to the credit card. At least we got a refund. Well, since it wasn't our credit card that it was bought with, we took our only option. But now, we can't go to Best Buy.

Apparently the people at Nintendo have a lot of fun messing with people because they don't tell any of their stores when shipments are coming in or how many they are getting. Brett proceeded to call every Wal-Mart from Payson to Midvale with each one saying that the next store had a few Wiis. Unfortunately none of them actually had a Wii, and one said that they come in every 6 weeks and one said they come in every week. At this point I was desperate so I made a deal with the devil.

Anyone who knows how much I hate Wal-Mart in the first place, even before this ordeal, will know the sacrifices that I have made. I told Brett that if we could just go get one now while we knew that Best Buy had some, I would be willing to buy groceries only at Wal-Mart until our $450 gift card was gone. I know. Tell me about it.
At this point we realized that we had forgotten that we told a girl that she could come look at our guitar, and hopefully buy it, in about 10 minutes. We were 10 minutes away from the house as it was and had no intention of returning without a Wii. We flew to Best Buy, ran in, and grabbed a Wii before it could be snatched up by anyone else. We frantically chose games and ran to the check out. She called on the way home and we apologized profusely and gave her a small discount on the guitar which she bought even though we were such flakes.

We did come home and make some money on that guitar and even though he won Mario Party, I proceeded to whoop Brett on Wii Play. Even on fishing. Boo yah.

Texas!

The date is very wrong on this post.  My date and time freaked out on me, so the date should be Wednesday, June 25.  But anyway, Kennedy took her first trip this week when we went to Dallas to visit my family.  She was fantastic!  She slept the whole way on both flights even though the one coming home had a couple of screaming kids.  She slept in our room, which she has never done, and constantly woke us up with her little sleepy noises.  But she loved to visit with everyone, and of course, pose for tons of pictures.  Here she is with her uncle Blake and aunt Lisa (and cousin Wyatt who should be here within the month!)

With her aunt Christine who was so excited to meet her first niece.

With Grandma and Grandpa Pitt

Playing with Grandpa (which was a common event during the week)

Four generations of mothers and daughters: Great-Grandma Emigh, Grandma Pitt, mom, and Kennedy.  We were so excited to get this picture!

With Great-Grandma and Grandpa Emigh
Everybody had a great time meeting her and playing with her!  She also got to meet Blake and Lisa's cat who was terrified of her and hissed any time he was forced to get close.  We also took a trip to the most awesome cupcake bakery in Dallas called Sprinkles.  I love it and actually did have a dream while I was pregnant about getting some cupcakes there.  I of course had my favorite (red velvet) as well as trying some new flavors which included lemon, black and white, and banana.  All in all it was a successful trip and Kennedy can't wait to go back and see her new friends again for Thanksgiving!

PS - Happy birthday to Rachel Erickson who is very far away in Memphis!

Daddy and the Doctor

One of Kennedy's favorite things to to now is to lay on her back on a blanket, kick her legs and talk and smile like nobody's business.  She loves to tell mom and dad all about her day and the things that she likes to do.

We just love her to death.  She went to the doctor yesterday for her 2 month checkup and everything looks great!  In fact, the nurse and the doctor both mentioned how happy and calm she is.  Woohoo!  She really doesn't cry very much at all, only when she needs something.  She is growing so quickly.  She has gained 3 pounds and 2 inches since her last visit!  We'll see how she does next week when we take her to get her shots though...I'm sure it won't be a pretty sight.

Creativity...or Not

Why does everything I make look exactly the same?  Every craft project that I attempt ends up very neat, very linear, very cute, and very much the same.  Case in point: here is an invitation for a baby shower that I recently made.

And here is a cup that I made at Color Me Mine

I am satisfied with the end result, but it still baffles me that every scrapbook page, every invitation, even the cat bowl that I painted ends up the same.  I guess that my creativity is not really creativity, just structured cuteness.

Blissful Nights

All that I have ever heard about babies sleeping at night are horror stories.  Apparently I got up at least once a night until I was 18 months old.  Brett's older sister took 12 months to sleep through the night.  The doctor says that babies don't sleep through the night until they reach 13-15 pounds.  Considering that I do not do very well without sleep, I was not doing so hot the first few days.  But this was the scene last night for almost 10 hours:

No kidding!  She even took a long nap yesterday afternoon, but she slept from 8:30 to 6:10.  Earlier this week she slept 8 hours straight two nights in a row.  We are so happy that Kennedy decided that she didn't have to wait until she even hit 13 pounds to sleep through the night.  It only took 2 months for her to reach this wonderful place!  She is getting awfully big though.  She's starting to grow out of her 0-3 month clothes.  She's also going to take her first plane ride next week to go visit her family in Texas.  She has yet to meet her Uncle Blake and her Aunts Christine and Lisa.  She also needs to meet her great-grandma and great-grandpa Emigh and her soon to be cousin Wyatt.  She's so excited!  If anyone has any advice about taking a baby on a plane (or packing for a baby for that matter) please let me know!

Spastic Blog

Yes, yes.  I have yet again changed the layout of my blog.  I'm sorry that it is never the same when you come to look at it, but I have only just recently figured out how to make my blog pretty.  And as soon as I found a layout that I liked I realized that it is getting a little bit close to the 4th of July and I need to be festive.  If my house can't be a firecracker than my blog certainly can be!  Thanks for being patient with all of the changes!

Lucy's Impressions 2

It's time for another one of Lucy's great and entertaining impressions.  Here is the latest in her series.
I really think that she looks like Janosz from Ghostbusters II.  You know, the little bad guy who gets possessed by the painting.  His eyes glow just like this when the city has a blackout.  Unfortunately I couldn't find a picture of him, so if you have no idea what I'm talking about, here is the next best thing.

I don't know why it is that all of Lucy's impressions have been kind of creepy.  Maybe next time she'll oblige us with a nice impression.

Lee Look-alike Meter

Brett was thrilled when we did this because everybody (except 2 people) says that she looks more like me.  According to MyHeritage.com she looks more like Brett by 4%.  Yay dad!

Smiles!

Here is Kennedy's little smirk.  We love when this happens because we know a big smile is coming.
This face usually means that she is pooping.  She makes it a lot.  It's awfully funny.
Here is a smile!  We are so excited that she has actually started smiling at us instead of just in her sleep for no reason.
Here's the kicker!  We just sit around and try to get her to smile most of the time.  It makes us so happy to see her happy!  She even smiles when I get her out of the crib in the morning now. It is by far my favorite part of motherhood so far.  That and when she talks to me.  It's so cute! She's getting so big so fast.  7 weeks and counting!

Second Anniversary

June 2nd marked our 2nd anniversary.  I have no pictures to post because we didn't do anything that was different than just a normal date, but after 7 weeks of not being able to go out without Kennedy it was really fun!  Grandma Lee, Aunt Jamie and Great-Grandpa Crosby babysat while Brett and I got to go and enjoy a movie in the theaters.  (The first time since probably February).  We saw Indiana Jones, which was so much fun (but I kept hearing phantom cries), and then we went and stuffed ourselves to the brim at Goodwood.  It's Brett's favorite place to get ribs.  When we got home the baby was already asleep, which was fantastic.  We spent such a great night together.  We have been so happy for the past two years and look forward to many more!

Lucy's Impressions

Lucy does some awfully funny things around the house.  Here is her latest impression:
Yes, our cat does impressions of KISS.  She's pretty awesome.  She also fetches and says please.  We wouldn't give her up for anything!

More Cute Pics

Just some cute pictures to round out the blog.

Blessing

Brett was able to bless Kennedy in church on Sunday.  It was such a sweet blessing and Kennedy's dress had a lot of sentimental value: Her aunts Stefani, Amanda, and Jamie and her cousin Kasia were all blessed in it.  She had both of her grandpas and one of her great-grandpas there as well as a ton of other family and a few friends.  We had a lunch after at the park and it was such a beautiful day!  The kids were all able to play and we had a great time eating the great food and my homemade key lime pie.  (Sorry the pictures are sideways.  I forgot to flip them before adding them in.)

Kennedy's First Swim!

We took Kennedy swimming for the first time on Saturday and she loved it!  She fell asleep in the water (probably because it felt like being back in the womb).  I think that we should invest in some swim diapers though because that was the craziest big diaper that I have ever seen.  She was just precious in her little swimsuit.

Kennedy - 5 weeks old

Finally, here are some more pictures of Kennedy!  I have realized that at this point pretty much every picture that I take of her looks exactly the same.  She is starting to smile a little bit more though, so hopefully I'll be able to catch one of them soon!
